An amateur bread baker who created a marvelous deep-dish
five-cheese pizza won the Chicago Sun-Times Chicago Style Pizza
Recipe contest.
"I like working with breads," said Gary Baldwin. "What I like
about pizza is that I'm making a bread with a lot of wonderful
toppings."
Baldwin, who comes from Indiana, feels that not being a native
gives him an edge as a pizza maker.
"People here take pizza for granted. When I moved to Chicago, I
was overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of pizzas," he said.
As soon as the judges saw Baldwin's recipe, it was obvious he
had the fixings for a great pizza and moved up to one of six to make
the final tasting. The judges were Sun-Times food writers ...
