INDIANAPOLIS By the time John Andretti and Billy Vukovich III
were born, A. J. Foyt had won his first Indianapolis 500.
On Saturday, Andretti, Vukovich and Foyt were among the
divergent group of nine drivers who qualified for the 72nd Indy 500
next Sunday, leaving three spots open for today's final qualifying
runs.
Andretti is the nephew of Mario Andretti and the cousin of
Michael, both of whom already are in the race.
Vukovich is the son of 12-time Indy starter Bill Jr. and the
grandson of two-time Indy winner Bill Vukovich. He also is the first
third-generation driver to make the race.
The others who qualified Saturday are Raul Boesel, who had the
fastest speed at 211.058 m.p.h., ...
