Services will be held tomorrow for Thomas Gibbons, 83, a onetime
Irish radio personality who helped to bring the St. Patrick's Day
parade downtown. He died Monday at his Elmhurst home.
Mr. Gibbons, who was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and moved to
this country in 1922, owned three funeral homes in Elmhurst, Chicago
and Itasca.
He fought in his native Ireland with the Irish Republican Army,
and after emigrating attended Crane Tech. In 1935 he graduated as
president of his class from Worsham College of Mortuary Science.
