LOS ANGELES "The two things I never thought I'd be making a comedy about," Liza Minnelli said, "are alcoholism and infertility - two things that have occurred in my life."

Did that make any of the scenes particularly hard for you to do?

"You can draw from your experience to make it more real. But then friends would tell me, `Liza, you've got to make a statement here about alcoholism,' and I'd say, `Hey, it's only a movie!' "

This was while she was making "Arthur 2 on the Rocks," co-starring with Dudley Moore in the continuing saga of a cheerful drunk with $750 million and almost as many one-liners. (The film will open Friday at local theaters.)
