The lowest point in the Welsh-English band Underworld's career turned out to be its turning point.

"Earlier in the 1980s, we had no record deal, no money and an enormous amount of debt hanging over our heads," said vocalist-guitarist Karl Hyde. "We had like five quid between us. We thought, `Well, this is it. This is when we have to decide this band is forever, or be sensible and go and part company now.' Then we realized keeping Underworld together was the sensible thing to do.
