WHITE SOX 6-7 RED SOX 5-10
Friday was a fifth inning day at Comiskey Park. The first
fifth inning was all White Sox, as they scored three runs and went on
to defeat the Boston Red Sox 6-5.
The second fifth was an entirely different bottle as the Red Sox
buried the hosts with a seven-run, nine-hit barrage that carried them
to a 10-7 victory and a split for the day before a crowd of 18,963.
"We took advantage of opportunities we had," Boston manager John
McNamara said after more than six hours of baseball in 90-plus heat
and ozone that hung over the field like a tarp. "We came back in the
first game, too."
