Movies are the only new art form that America has given the
world, so no wonder we don't take them seriously. Familiarity breeds
contempt. While film lovers in the rest of the world study the great
Hollywood films with awe and pleasure, Ted Turner tries to figure a
way to colorize "Citizen Kane." If he ever exerts his will on the
greatest of all American films, he should be put into the textbooks
along with the guys who slash paintings and take hammers to statues.
But because his target is only a movie, maybe he thinks he can get
away with it.
The most ridiculous argument in defense of colorization is this
one: "The original negative or print is not changed. Only what you
see on video ...
