Article: Time takes 50% stake in Hippocrates magazine

One of the hottest magazines born in 1987, Hippocrates, already has caught the eye of the country's biggest magazine publisher, Time Inc., which has purchased 50 percent interest in the health-oriented bimonthly.

Hippocrates was launched as an entrepreneurial venture by some of the co-founders of Science '80, Eric Schrier and Jim Martay. Schrier is president and editor of Hippocrates, while Martay is executive publisher. Time's magazine group executive vice president, Christopher Meigher, said Wednesday Time will invest $9 million in Hippocrates and will have the right to appoint half of the company's board of directors.
