Is perfect love for real, or are Scott and Carolyn nuts?
Wheaton's most famous missing lovebirds popped up safe and sound
in San Diego last week, after a four-month disappearing act, and
explained they'd been bumming on the beach and pursuing their
"perfect love."
This is no ordinary love, they said. This is a love free of
materialism and conventional expectations, a love unfettered by
money, cars, moms and dads. This is, they said, a "perfect love."
Can that be real? Is there perfect love, or only imperfect
loves, fairy tale fantasies and frightful obsessions? Is love, as H.
L. Mencken said, merely "the triumph of imagination over
intelligence"?
