Despite the ongoing Wall Street and Pentagon scandals, ethics
are not dead in corporate America. The better firms make ethics an
intrinsic part of their corporate culture, because it is profitable
as well as good.
Consider these facts. More than 70 of the largest U.S.
corporations have business ethics programs for their employees. Many
of the leading business schools are requiring business ethics courses
for their students.
The latest surge in corporate ethics programs also is
attributable to the "Defense Initiative" that followed a government
investigation of defense company misconduct, according to Manny
Valasquez, director of the Santa Clara University's Center for
Applied Ethics.
