Scholars have recently stopped watching "The Untouchables" long
enough to look at what really happened during Prohibition. They
found that, nationwide, there was no violent crime wave. They found
that per-capita alcohol consumption decreased by nearly two-thirds.
Some conclude that Prohibition, far from being the total disaster
most people regard it, was a success.
When there shall be neither a slave nor a drunkard on the
earth, how proud the title of that Land which may truly claim to be
the birthplace and the cradle of both those revolutions.
