INDIANAPOLIS The judges gave Bruce Kimball 601.14 points for his
performance Thursday in the three-meter springboard preliminaries,
but there was no way to measure the emotions of seven spectators
watching Kimball at the U.S. Olympic diving trials.
Six were friends of Robbie Bedell, 19, one of two teenagers
killed Aug. 1 in Brandon, Fla., when Kimball's car crashed into a
group of young people.
Kimball's marks - his best this year - put him in sixth place,
but he isn't expected to be among the top two springboard qualifiers
for the Olympic team after tonight's finals.
Kimball's best event will come tomorrow in the platform, in
which he won the 1984 Olympic silver medal. The ...
