Article: Spy ring cracked // 2 Yanks, 6 others sold NATO secrets to Soviets

FRANKFURT, West Germany An international spy ring, broken with the arrest of a former U.S. Army sergeant, another American soldier and six other people, sold NATO defense secrets to the Soviet Union at high prices for a decade, officials said Thursday.

It was too early to know how much damage was caused to Western security, officials said, but the ring is believed to have stolen documents concerning NATO defense plans for Europe and U.S. Army contingency plans for a ground war with the Soviet Union in Europe.
