Even the grandest of residences needs refurbishing from time to
time. Blair House, which has been called the nation's guest house,
has just been treated to a $13 million renovation.
The complex of four historic homes on Pennsylvania Avenue in
Washington is within view of the White House. It was reopened for
use as the president's guest house this summer after six years of
reconstruction and redecorating.
New York decorator Mario Buatta shouldered half the decorating
task of making this home for visiting dignitaries spiffy rather than
merely presentable. Mark Hampton was responsible for the other half.
Only a few items of furniture and accessories were purchased.
