LOS ANGELES Fifty years after a Swiss chemist discovered LSD, a
group of researchers is setting up a library devoted to the
mind-bending hallucinogen that its advocate Timothy Leary says showed
millions a "glorious wonder behind the forehead."
Named after the chemist who synthesized LSD in 1938, the Albert
Hofmann Library will be "a legitimate tool for further research"
about the powerful chemical, said library founder Oscar Janiger.
The use of LSD, or lysergic acid diethylamide, became widespread
in the late 1960s. It fueled a movement of self-exploration and
social change, and left an indelible mark on music, art and
literature.
