Scott Raridon, Notre Dame's strength and conditioning
coordinator, spotted sophomore Chris Zorich one day cooling down in a
towel and wrap-around sunglasses.
"If I didn't know Chris Zorich," thought Raridon, 25, who was an
All-Big Eight tackle at Nebraska, "I'd be afraid of him. And I'm 6-5
and 290."
Everywhere he goes these days, Zorich - a 6-1, 265-pound nose
tackle who will make his collegiate debut tomorrow night - seems to
attract attention. For months coach Lou Holtz, whose Irish will host
Michigan (8 p.m., Ch. 2), has been saying, "Man, I can't wait to see
Chris Zorich play."
The strange part is that Zorich, a Chicago Vocational product,
still has vivid, frightening memories ...
