Article: Common noises can cause hearing loss

Attending an exciting football game, running a vacuum cleaner or mowing the lawn may not rank high on your list of risky activities. But researchers worry about everyday noises that can do either immediate ear damage or can add up to hearing loss later in life.

People in certain remote areas of the world - without traffic, lawn mowers and food processors - don't experience the gradual decline of hearing that many people in this country take for granted. They also don't suffer heart attacks, high blood pressure or other stress-related illnesses that sometimes are associated with persistent loud noises.
