Article: Generation gap divides London fashions

LONDON There is a generation gap in London's fashion scene for next summer: a hippie revival for the young and a touch of Hollywood-style glamor for the sophisticated lady.

But across the fashion divide there are some common threads.

Color splashed back into the fashion palette. A strong wind blew in from the East bringing Indonesian-style sarong skirts and takeoffs on Indian saris. Fluid fabrics changed the tailored look to a sexier silhouette. And the mini-skirt dropped to the knee, if not below, and even fluttered around the ankle.

The summer of '89 divided into two camps, however, around the age of 21.
