Article: Carter writes Khomeini he'll mediate for hostages

ATLANTA Former President Jimmy Carter said Saturday he had written to the Iranian spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, offering to mediate in the release of 10 American hostages in Lebanon.

"My hope is that, in the name of justice and humanity, Iran will use its influence to encourage the release of all American hostages by working through normal channels," he said.
