Article: Dulles Corridor Rail Extension Backed; Critics of $3 Billion Proposal Say Bus Rapid Transit Was Unfairly Rejected

The team of officials from Metro and Virginia studying ways to bring transit to the Dulles corridor yesterday recommended extending Metrorail to Tysons Corner and Dulles International Airport at a cost of $3.2 billion.

The recommendation, made after an environmental study and a seven- month public hearing and comment period, will now be weighed by the two agencies responsible for making the decision -- the Commonwealth Transportation Board and Metro. They are expected to decide by December and, if the option is backed, seek federal approval.
