SEATTLE (AP) Holland America Line's Seattle-based travel and
tourism companies will be purchased by Carnival Cruise Lines of Miami
for about $625 million, the two companies announced Friday.
Officials of Carnival, one of the world's largest cruise lines,
described it as a significant consolidation in their business. The
announcement came one month after Carnival lost in its attempt to
take over another cruise operation, Royal Admiral Cruises Ltd.
Micky Arison, president of Carnival and the son of its
billionaire majority owner Ted Arison, and Nico van der Vorm,
chairman of Holland America Line N.V., said in a joint announcement
