WASHINGTON, D.C. "The Pastoral Landscape" here is an art exhibition
for people fed up with those nightmares called "blockbusters" and
their long entrance lines. "The Pastoral Landscape" does not require
tickets, sharp elbows or strong tiptoes. It is a rare gem, deserving
- but, fortunately for art lovers, avoiding - major attention.
Besides providing a proper setting for aesthetic contemplation,
the lovely pastoral views presented are enchanting reveries,
transporting us beyond daily routine and urban blight. As pastoral
tradition commands, even the gods do not menace, mandate or
interfere. And, later, as industry creeps into the genre, as it
does in George Inness' "The Lackawanna ...
