Article: Science academy offers some weatherproof fun

When the Chicago Academy of Sciences, 2001 N. Clark, staged its first annual winter carnival last January, a team of Alaskan huskies was set to give some thrilling dog-sled demonstrations in the snow. Alas, unseasonably warm temperatures melted all the white stuff and the dogs had to haul a wagon instead of a sled. The effect just wasn't the same.

There will be no such disappointments at this year's winter carnival, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday. "Rather than depend on the weather to cooperate, we're holding all the activities inside," said Jean Linsner, academy program coordinator.
