Frankly, my first memory of the film "Gone With the Wind" was
intermission.
As a kid in western Canada, I didn't know Margaret Mitchell from
Mickey Mouse. Our history classes had not yet addressed the War
Between the States. After all, didn't that happen in a foreign
country?
But the word was out. There was going to be a movie with an
intermission. That was "gee, gosh, golly" stuff. Imagine!
Something so long, they had to stop in between.
I remember begging my mother to let me go and being very
surprised that she acquiesced. Naturally, the next order of business
was that if we were going to be confined in Regina's Capital Theater
for nearly four hours, we would certainly have to take ...
