The slovenly sleuth is back. Peter Falk returns to the tube in
"Columbo" Monday night as part of the "ABC Mystery Movie." Bumbling,
bleary-eyed and apologetic, with a face as crumpled and worn as his
wardrobe, Falk's character nonetheless seemed to conceal something
keen and lethal beneath the disheveled surface, a suspicion confirmed
by his ingenious nailing of the bad guy at each episode's conclusion.
Few roles on TV have captured the imagination like Columbo, and few
roles in Falk's long film career have fit him so well as did the
lieutenant's greasy raincoat. His best performances - in John
