Broad limits on the use of pre-employment lie detector tests went into effect Dec. 27, but they made barely a ripple in the applicant screening processes of most Chicago employers.

The end of the polygraph as a pre-employment screen had been anticipated. A handful of states already limited the used of lie detectors, and when President Reagan signed the bill in June it only served to hasten the move away from the controversial tests.
