The best thing about "Amazing Grace" is that it makes you think
about the way things work outside the realm of our tiny,
self-involved planet. What's beyond the stars? Where do we go after
we die? Is there such a thing as fate?
In Sandra Deer's play, which opened last weekend at the Illinois
Theatre Center in Park Forest, Grace Tanner doesn't have all the
answers. But she certainly believes that they exist.
With the help of "Teacher," a spirit guide who occasionally
occupies her body, Grace can see bits of the future, as well as
events that are taking place elsewhere in the present. In her native
