Article: Evergreen Park gets shot of new blood

As in many mature suburbs, the population in Evergreen Park is aging. But that may be changing.

About a third of the of 22,350 residents are senior citizens. The population has declined over the last 15 years as children have grown up and left. The median age is 45 years.

Now, younger families are moving into the suburb 14 miles southwest of the Loop. Village officials say the reasons are quality of life and affordable housing.

Although Evergreen Park has no industry, it has a large business district along 95th Street. Evergreen Plaza is one of the oldest shopping centers in the country.
