Dr. John's music needs a potion to revive his second line fever.
While the New Orleans singer-piano player showed moments of
brilliance Tuesday in his opening-night set at the Fairmont Hotel,
his show with singer Maria Muldaur was beset by too many maladies.
Dr. John (the stage name of 48-year-old Mac Rebennack) still was
recovering from a recent car accident, and that may explain his
laid-back performance. But other afflictions plagued the portly
doctor. A poorly miked sound system obscured his gravelly voice and
his fluid keyboard work during Tuesday's 75-minute show at the
Fairmont's Moulin Rouge supper club. What the audience was missing
