Timothy C. Evans, the alderman who wants to be mayor, is a
novelty on the Chicago campaign trail.
Instead of swagger, you get cautious statements doled out in a
measured cadence and the politeness of a Southern gentleman who
somehow stumbled into a brawl.
When a reporter asks what could be a needling question about
endorsements not coming his way, Evans smiles and says: "As you can
see, we are not worried about any endorsements."
No doubt he knows how to fight, but his style of campaigning
differs from that of his mentor, former Mayor Harold Washington.
