Article: Turkish Cypriot police, protesting women clash

LYMBIA, Cyprus Club-wielding Turkish Cypriot policemen scuffled Sunday with Greek Cypriot women trying to breach Cyprus' dividing Green Line to walk to their former homes in the Turkish-occupied north of the island.

Nine women were injured and 32 were detained as they tried to break through a cordon of police and unarmed Turkish soldiers while Turkish military helicopters buzzed overhead.

Another 53 women and a male news photographer were detained as about 3,500 protesters tried to cross the line patrolled by 2,000 United Nations peacekeepers.
