On March 4, 1789, the first session of the first Congress
convened. The congressmen realized they lacked a quorum to conduct
business and quickly adjourned, having accomplished absolutely
nothing except to make some history.
Some things never change.
"The Congress," a PBS documentary airing from 9 to 10:30 tonight
on WTTW-Channel 11, takes a look at this "engine of democracy" as
part of its bicentennial celebration.
During this all-too-brief film by Ken Burns, "The Congress"
attempts to view the history of the United States through the prism
of Capitol Hill.
