DENALI NATIONAL PARK, Alaska Called "The Great Land" by its native
Aleuts, Alaska is particularly great for watching wildlife.
But "great" also means big; the abundant birds and mammals have
plenty of room to spread out. If you visit Alaska to view wild
animals, your chances for success are greatest in five places: four
national parks - Denali, Kenai Fjords, Katmai, Glacier Bay - and the
Pribilof Islands. Of the five, only Kenai Fjords appears to be
threatened by the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Denali National Park contains the highest mountain in North
America, 20,230-foot Mt. McKinley. Although most summer park
