Article: Lucille Ball undergoes heart surgery

LOS ANGELES Lucille Ball, 77, known to millions as the daffy red-haired star of "I Love Lucy," had a heart attack Tuesday and underwent emergency surgery. Her condition Tuesday night was described as "very serious."

Her husband, Gary Morton, said he was with her at their Beverly Hills home when she experienced "just terrible pain. . . . She'd been feeling just great until this morning."

He said he was told Ball was undergoing a heart-bypass operation.

Ball, who had been in poor health in recent years and had a mild heart attack last May 11, was conscious when brought by ambulance to the emergency room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at noon. She was wheeled into the operating room ...
