Article: 2 killed in Jordanian price protest

MA'AN, Jordan Two demonstrators died of bullet wounds here Wednesday as violent protests against government price increases erupted in several areas of southern Jordan for the second consecutive day, area residents said.

Several protesters were wounded by gunfire in this city, 130 miles south of Amman, where at least 17 people were injured in a disturbance Tuesday.

In the face of one of the worst outbreaks of social unrest ever seen in Jordan, Crown Prince Hassan appealed for calm and told reporters he had flown to Ma'an by helicopter Tuesday to hear the grievances of the demonstrators.
