The berries-and-mousse dessert came to the tables encased in
little white chocolate buildings. It was hard to tell whether they
most resembled the White House or the Senate side of the Capitol.
Either way, with Congress and the presidency now under Republican
control, these are days of triumph for the Federalist Society for Law
and Public Policy Studies.
Gathering at the Mayflower Hotel this week for their 20th
anniversary convention, members of the conservative legal
organization networked boisterously and gossiped about the prospects
of members whose paths to key federal judgeships, once obstructed by
a Democratic Senate, now seem clear.
