The PBS "American Playhouse" production of Mark Twain's "The
Diaries of Adam and Eve," airing from 9 to 10 tonight on WTTW-Channel
11, contains an extra level of sadness and poignancy to go with its
humor.
David Birney and Meredith Baxter Birney performed in this
biting, funny comedy of the sexes late last year in Dallas, shortly
before their real-life marriage ended.
Drawn from two different Twain works, written 15 years apart,
this theatrical version shows how the biblical characters Adam and
Eve learn to tolerate and eventually love each other.
