BERN, Switzerland The Swiss federal capital is a great place for photography and for spending a rainy day.

There are scenic shots galore from the bridges spanning the River Aare, which makes a sharp "V" turn here and encloses the old town on three sides. The wide, arcaded main streets are equally photogenic, particularly where traffic splits around the brightly colored fountains.

Bern's clock tower is one of the oldest great clocks in Switzerland, dating from 1530, and it's a delight.
