ELMONT, N.Y. Easy Goer was going, going, gone Saturday in denying
Sunday Silence horse racing's Triple Crown with an eight-length
victory in the Belmont Stakes.
"Easy Goer made his move in a very short amount of time," said
jockey Pat Day, who avenged close losses in the Kentucky Derby and
Preakness. "I went by Sunday Silence so rapidly that I didn't notice
whether he had much fight left in him. I didn't want to look him in
the eye - I looked him the eye for a quarter of a mile in the
Preakness."
Bettors of favored Sunday Silence at 4-5 and Easy Goer at 8-5
were concerned when Calumet Farm's Le Voyageur, a 29-1 hazard, led
