LAS VEGAS Moral Majority triumphed in its 10-year battle for the
religious and social soul of the United States and can now call it
quits, the Rev. Jerry Falwell said in a casino here Sunday.
The 55-year-old founder and chief spokesman of the political
lobby said conservative election victories and emergence of other,
more specific special-interest groups combined to end the need for
Moral Majority.
"The religious right is solidly in place, and, like the
galvanizing of the black church as a political force a generation
ago, the religious conservatives in America are now in for the
