DETROIT The June 23-July 4 International Freedom Festival boasts
more than 100 events celebrated in Detroit and across the border in
Windsor, Ontario.
The 31st annual festival is North America's largest trans-border
bash, staged each year since the United States and Canada celebrated
a visit by England's Queen Elizabeth II in 1959. Its parades,
concerts, entertainment, carnivals and fireworks display over the
Detroit River span two holidays: Canada Day, commemorating the
creation of the Dominion on July 1, 1867; and our Independence Day.
More than 3 million people are expected to attend some part of
the celebration, for which most events are free. They take place in
