The title misleads. By the standards of those who read books -
and Frank Zappa not only admits that he isn't one, but he also seems
proud of the fact - The Real Frank Zappa Book lacks the structural
coherence of a "real" book. It does allow the "real" Zappa to spout
his opinions on just about everything.
As has been the case with Zappa's albums since he launched the
Mothers of Invention, the results feature flashes of provocative
brilliance amid stretches of self-indulgence.
One wouldn't expect the man who considers himself rock's great
iconoclast, the last real democrat in a country where ...
