Biggest story involving the Chicago Board of Trade, prior to the
return of charges against 46 traders and brokers, was the battle with
the giant Italian agribusiness Ferruzzi. The board alleged Ferruzzi
was attempting to dominate soybean futures and possibly corner the
market. As a result, the CBOT ordered Ferruzzi to liquidate its
holdings. Ferruzzi countered by filing a suit against the Board of
Trade, with the entire world grain market awaiting the outcome. But
the battle died with a whimper - Ferruzzi withdrew its suit, thus
vindicating the CBOT's action. Ciao!
