Once upon a time, Monday night was a time for industrious
Chicagoans to do the laundry, pay a few bills, read a little and go
to bed early. Then, in 1970, ABC Sports developed "Monday Night
Football."
Monday nights haven't been the same since.
Neither have the Bears, who will take on Buddy Ryan's
Philadelphia Eagles tonight at Soldier Field in a grudge match
typical of early season Monday night match-ups.
On the won-loss ledger, the Bears have a lousy record (9-17) on
Monday nights. Only six teams have been worse.
But on the ledger that really counts - network ratings, which
translate to big money for the NFL - the Bears are overwhelming
winners.
