For Jerry's kids, $250,000 may be a drop in the charitable
bucket, but it's a mammoth sum for a music sale. And it's the goal
of the 12th annual - and biggest ever - Mammoth Music Mart, where
record collectors and bargain hunters can benefit themselves while
benefitting the Les Turner ALS Foundation.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is better known as Lou
Gehrig's disease, and it struck a Glenview resident named Les Turner
in 1976. From Turner's battle came one of the most successful
grass-roots charitable campaigns in the country, and an annual music
sale that has developed into a year-round project.
This year's Mammoth Music Mart will begin at noon Thursday at
