Article: South Loop parents calm in council's first session

Motivated by concern for their schoolchildren, the once-warring factions of the South Loop School community sat together Wednesday night for their first local school council meeting.

Seated at the table were parents from the Hilliard Homes CHA apartment complex and community representatives from the upper-middle-class South Loop and Dearborn Park developments, along with teachers and the principal of their common link - the school at 1212 S. Plymouth.

"I didn't have any preconceptions of discord," said Janice Epps, who won her council seat with backing of parents from Hilliard and the mid-income Long Grove apartments.
