When the Canadian feature "Salut Victor!" opens Chicago
Filmmakers' Ninth Chicago Lesbian and Gay International Film Festival
Wednesday at the Music Box, the reels of conflict will again be in
motion. Such are the delicate and sometimes angry politics involved
in gay rights and gay expression that any attempt to represent all
viewpoints in a single festival can't help inviting controversy.
Some gays and lesbians adamantly oppose the very idea of
programming such a festival outside the homosexual community. For
them, the presention of films about un-closeted characters and
