NEW YORK You go backstage at enough rock concerts and you figure
you've seen everything. I've seen much backstage that would boggle
the mind, and plenty that can't be printed in a family newspaper, but
I encountered something I'd never seen backstage when I paid a
pre-show visit to New Kids on the Block.
I saw a slice of shockingly wholesome apple pie. I also saw
bowls of popcorn and potato chips, and tubs filled with diet pop and
old-fashioned root beer, though there wasn't a real beer to be found.
We were in the biggest backstage room at the Brendan Byrne Arena, in
New Jersey's Meadowlands complex. The sign on the door said "Family
Room." Come to think of it, I'd never seen a Family ...
