Article: `Charing Cross Road' runs into a dead end

`84, Charing Cross Road" is much like a favorite novel that's jammed full of vibrant characters and potent emotions. The only problem is most novels end with a poignant last page that makes the reader want to remember the book forever. "84, Charing Cross Road" ends as if the last page were torn out of the script.

The Northlight Theatre production of the Helene Hanff play, which runs through Dec. 31 at 2300 Green Bay Rd., Evanston, is a stylish production of the often-produced but truncated play (and Hollywood movie).
