Q. I have a severe pain in my face and the doctors at the
hospital have called it a nerve disease. I have to take a drug for
it that may have serious side effects and I have to check back every
three weeks to see if I am OK. Do you know the name of the drug and
is it worth taking to get rid of the pain?
A. I assume it is Tegretol, which has been prescribed for your
facial pain. The medical name of this condition is trigeminal
neuralgia, although for years it was called Tic Douloureux.
